Teladoc Health (TDOC.N) is set to expand its collaboration with tech giant Microsoft (MSFT.O) by leveraging its advanced artificial intelligence services to automate clinical documentation on its telehealth platform, resulting in a remarkable 6% surge in premarket trade for Teladoc shares.
In a move to alleviate the burden on healthcare professionals during virtual examinations, Teladoc announced on Tuesday that they will integrate Microsoft’s AI capabilities, alongside technology from OpenAI, the creator of the renowned chatbot ChatGPT.
Since the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, the two companies have been working together, with Teladoc integrating its Solo virtual healthcare platform into Microsoft Teams.
In this enhanced partnership, Teladoc will now harness the power of Microsoft’s Nuance Dragon Ambient eXperience, an AI-driven, voice-enabled solution utilizing the cutting-edge GPT4 AI service, to automatically document patient encounters. These recordings will undergo a final review and signoff by clinicians, streamlining the administrative processes and improving overall efficiency.
Addressing the challenges faced by healthcare professionals, Teladoc’s chief medical officer, Vidya Raman-Tangella, emphasized the significance of reducing administrative burden and overcoming staff shortages to retain clinicians in the profession.
With the lingering impact of pandemic fatigue leading to attrition within hospitals and healthcare providers, the adoption of AI solutions has become a focal point of discussions. Various industries are actively exploring ways to integrate AI into their operations, and the launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT in November has further ignited interest in this revolutionary technology.
