NextGen Healthcare, an EHR vendor, has introduced an AI-driven solution called NextGen Ambient Assist within its mobile app. This innovative technology swiftly summarizes patient-provider conversations into SOAP notes (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan) in real time, significantly enhancing provider efficiency. Healthcare professionals can save up to two hours of documentation daily, allowing more time for patient care. This addresses the issue of physician burnout, which affects 63% of physicians weekly. Importantly, Ambient Assist complements clinicians without making medical judgments. It ensures patient privacy by never storing audio or transcripts, making it a valuable addition to EHR systems.
NextGen Healthcare, a leading EHR vendor, has unveiled a groundbreaking AI solution within its mobile application designed to significantly enhance provider efficiency through the concise summarization of clinical encounters.
Known as NextGen Ambient Assist, this AI-powered innovation delivers real-time, AI-generated SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, and Plan) notes directly into the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. SOAP notes are essential for healthcare providers to organize their observations and document patient care plans across various medical specialties.
With the integration of this new AI tool into the NextGen mobile application, healthcare professionals can now save up to two hours of daily documentation work, freeing them to allocate more time to patient interactions.
Within just 30 seconds after concluding a patient encounter, a SOAP note is automatically generated in the EHR for clinician review. This cutting-edge technology sifts through the conversation, extracting relevant details to create concise clinical documentation with an astonishing accuracy rate of over 90 percent.
David Sides, the President and CEO of NextGen Healthcare, expressed the significance of this advancement, stating, “Beyond mere transcription services, Ambient Assist serves as an intelligent ally, empowering providers to regain valuable time and deliver more effective patient care. This innovation addresses the well-documented issue of physician burnout.”
Studies have indicated that around 63 percent of physicians experience emotional exhaustion or symptoms of burnout at least once a week, a condition that can have detrimental effects on patient care, leading to errors and decreased quality of service.
Notably, NextGen Healthcare emphasizes that Ambient Assist does not replace clinicians by making medical judgments or inferences about medical conditions. Instead, it complements their expertise and workflow.
Once the clinician reviews the generated note and makes any necessary adjustments, the application seamlessly transfers the documentation into the patient’s medical records stored within the EHR.
Ambient Assist boasts features such as natural language processing, recognizing conversational speech, and understanding medical acronyms. Importantly, it adheres to stringent privacy standards, never storing or saving audio or transcripts to ensure the utmost patient confidentiality and data security.
