Google Cloud has unveiled generative AI search capabilities for healthcare, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and clinical decision support. These features, integrated with Google Cloud’s healthcare tools, are available for early access to customers. The solution complies with HIPAA standards and can provide more efficient access to clinical data. It integrates with Google’s Med-PaLM 2, delivering medical search capabilities based on patient records, enabling healthcare organizations to access pertinent medical information for clinical decision support.
Google Cloud has introduced innovative generative AI search functionalities tailored for the healthcare sector. These features are designed to enhance operational efficiencies within healthcare and enhance clinical decision support.
The Vertex AI Search capabilities seamlessly integrate with Google Cloud’s Healthcare API, Healthcare Data Engine, and Google Health’s search and summarization features from its pilot product, Care Studio.
Google Cloud customers are invited to participate in the early access program for Vertex AI Search features in healthcare and life sciences, enabling them to test and provide valuable feedback.
Burak Gokturk, the VP and general manager of cloud AI and industry solutions at Google Cloud, expressed that extending Google’s high-quality generative AI search capabilities throughout an organization’s ecosystem, including electronic health records (EHRs), has the potential to significantly boost operational efficiency, offer clinical decision support, and enhance patient care.
The introduction of these capabilities builds upon Vertex AI Search’s existing capacity to create question-answering and conversational search applications powered by foundational models. The healthcare and life sciences adaptations of Vertex AI Search are expected to empower users to access precise clinical information more effectively.
In healthcare environments, patient data access and utilization are safeguarded through Google Cloud’s secure infrastructure and data storage, which adhere to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance standards, as well as each customer’s privacy controls and security processes.
Moreover, Vertex AI Search, Healthcare Data Engine, and Healthcare API are all HIPAA-compliant. The new Vertex AI Search features tailored for healthcare and life sciences will also adhere to HIPAA regulations.
Kash Patel, EVP and chief digital information officer for Hackensack Meridian Health, emphasized the potential for leveraging generative AI search over enterprise data after transitioning to Google Cloud, as it can significantly enhance information and insights for clinicians and other team members.
The collaboration of Google Cloud customers with Vertex AI Search features for healthcare and life sciences, alongside Google’s medically-tuned large language model, Med-PaLM 2, is anticipated to enable healthcare organizations to access the most pertinent answers to medical queries from both global knowledge sources and within patients’ medical records to support clinical decision-making.
