Strategic Vision Behind The Restructuring
CMS Energy announced today a comprehensive corporate organizational restructuring designed to align with its operational transformation and long-term strategic objectives. The new structure, featuring reimagined leadership roles and streamlined business units, will officially launch on July 1, 2025. This strategic overhaul represents a significant evolution in how the Michigan-based energy provider will organize its operations to meet future challenges in the rapidly evolving energy landscape.
“CMS Energy’s future strategy, long-term ambitions and business unit roadmaps will provide safe, reliable, affordable, clean and equitable energy for our customers and prepare our company for the future,” explained Garrick Rochow, President and CEO of CMS Energy and Consumers Energy. “This new organizational design will be a key enabler to serve our customers through consistent delivery of results across the triple bottom line of people, planet and prosperity.”
The restructuring aims to enhance operational efficiency while maintaining the company’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and customer satisfaction. By realigning leadership responsibilities, CMS Energy is positioning itself to better navigate industry disruptions, technological advancements, and evolving regulatory requirements.
Customer-Centric Approach
At the heart of the reorganization is a reinforced dedication to customer service excellence. Lauren Snyder will assume the role of Senior Vice President, Chief Customer and Growth Officer, overseeing a consolidated division that encompasses Customer Operations, Customer Experience, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Programs. This integrated approach will enable more cohesive service delivery while maintaining a sharp focus on addressing evolving customer needs and driving Economic Development initiatives.
The customer-centric business unit will work to enhance service reliability, improve communication channels, and develop innovative energy solutions tailored to diverse customer segments. This approach reflects CMS Energy’s recognition that customer expectations are changing rapidly in the digital age.
Operations and Engineering Leadership
The operational backbone of CMS Energy will be strengthened under the leadership of Tonya Berry, who will be appointed Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer. This division will be organized into three specialized business units:
- Electric Supply: Sri Maddipati, currently serving as vice president of electric supply, will be elevated to president of electric supply. His responsibilities will encompass Energy Supply, Generating Plants/Resources, and Supply Development, ensuring reliable power generation capacity.
- Electric Distribution: Greg Salisbury will transition from his current role as vice president of electric distribution engineering to president of electric distribution. In this expanded capacity, he will oversee all aspects of the electric business, including both Operations and Engineering functions.
- Natural Gas Delivery: LeeRoy Wells, Jr, who currently serves as senior vice president of operations, will assume the role of president of natural gas delivery. This promotion places him in charge of the entire natural gas business, unifying Operations and Engineering under single leadership.
Legal and Transformation
The company’s legal framework and transformation initiatives will be led by Shaun Johnson in his new role as Executive Vice President of Business Transformation and Chief Legal and Administrative Officer. This division will integrate Legal, Compliance, Rates, Regulatory, Lean, and Information Technology and Application and Analytics Teams to drive organizational efficiency and ensure regulatory alignment.
Supporting this effort, Kelly Hall will be appointed Senior Vice President Regulatory & Legal Affairs and Deputy General Counsel, taking responsibility for the legal, regulatory, and compliance organizations. This strategic pairing of legal expertise with transformation initiatives reflects CMS Energy’s commitment to ethical growth and operational excellence.
Financial Leadership and Sustainability
Rejji Hayes will continue his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, maintaining oversight of Investor Relations, Treasury, Accounting, and Supply Chain. His expanded responsibilities will now include NorthStar Clean Energy, highlighting the company’s integration of financial discipline with sustainability goals.
Brandon Hofmeister, Senior Vice President, will continue to lead strategy, sustainability, and external affairs, ensuring consistent messaging and vision across all stakeholder communications.
Looking Forward: Implementation Timeline
The restructured organization will formally take effect on July 1, 2025, allowing for a seamless transition and comprehensive onboarding for the leadership team.
